Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
A disorder characterized by the presence of obsessions or compulsions or both that are time-consuming (more than 1 hour per day) or cause clinically significant distress or impairment.

Obsessions
Repetitive and persistent thoughts, images, or urges that are intrusive, unwanted, and cause marked distress. Individuals attempt to ignore, suppress, or neutralize them with other thoughts or actions.

Compulsions
Repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed in response to obsessions or rigid rules. They are performed to reduce distress or prevent feared events, but are often unrealistic or excessive.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Preoccupation with perceived defects or flaws in physical appearance that are not observable or only slight to others. Preoccupations occur on average 3-8 hours per day and focus commonly on skin, hair, or nose.

Hoarding Disorder
Persistent difficulty discarding possessions due to perceived need to save them and distress associated with discarding. This results in accumulation of possessions that clutter active living areas.

Trichotillomania (Hair-Pulling Disorder)
Recurrent pulling out of hair resulting in hair loss with repeated unsuccessful attempts to decrease or stop the behavior. Most common sites are scalp, eyebrows, and eyelids.

Excoriation (Skin-Picking) Disorder
Recurrent skin picking resulting in skin lesions with repeated attempts to decrease or stop the behavior. Most common sites are face, arms, and hands, often involving fingernails or tools.

Body areas in Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Most commonly involve skin, hair, or nose, but can include eyes, teeth, weight, stomach, breasts, legs, face, lips, chin, eyebrows, and genitals.

Time spent on preoccupations
In Body Dysmorphic Disorder, preoccupations are intrusive, unwanted, and time-consuming, occurring on average 3-8 hours per day and are usually difficult to resist or control.

Common items saved in Hoarding
Most commonly newspapers, magazines, clothing, bags, books, mail, and papers, though virtually any item can be saved.

Hair-pulling awareness styles
Some individuals display focused attention with preceding tension and subsequent relief, while others display automatic behavior without full awareness, with many experiencing both styles.

Physical sensations in Trichotillomania
Some individuals report an itch-like or tingling sensation in the scalp that is alleviated by pulling hair. Pain does not usually accompany the hair pulling.
